Arab League: Syria returns to Arab League after 12 years, voting in Cairo; organization’s summit on 19 May

Arab government representatives voted in Cairo on Sunday to bring Syria back into the Arab League after 12 years. Voting in the Egyptian capital comes days after regional top diplomats discussed in Jordan a roadmap to bring Syria back into the Arab League. Saudi Arabia will host the upcoming summit on 19 May. The organization has given this information.

It is also taken as part of the ongoing dialogue with Arab governments to reach a political solution to the crisis in line with Resolution 2254. In the decision, the Arab League also formed a communication committee consisting of Saudi Arabia and Syria’s neighbors Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.
